Know The Risks of Getting Massage During a Pandemic

Massage Therapy Risks during Covid-19

Here is just some quick bullet points about the inherent risks of receiving massage during the pandemic:

  • Even with best practices in place for sanitation & office protocol, there is still risk in contracting Covid-19 by receiving your massage treatment.

  • Your massage therapist could potentially be an asymptomatic carrier at any time.

  • There is potential blood clotting in those who were exposed to Covid-19. Even for those that are asymptomatic, this can apply to you. You can read more information about that HERE. This is a big contraindication for massage therapy and the reason you need to alert your therapist right away if you are not feeling well during treatment. The risk is there, but this seems extremely rare.

  • Your massage therapist will be wearing a facemask during consultation & treatment; as well as a face shield for treatments near the head in a face-up position to decrease the potential of possible exposure. However, there is still risk for potential exposure.

  • Recent CDC studies have suggested it is unlikely to contract Covid-19 from surfaces. That being said, make sure to sanitize your hands after your treatment as there still may be potential of getting the virus this way.

There’s probably more risks I can post about receiving massage during this time. The most important thing to consider is that if you’re immunocompromised, it’s best to wait a bit longer to come in for your massage treatment. I will do my very best to disinfect and adhere to safety measures to have the safest environment for my clients at this time.
